While this is obviously a comparison of these three radically different yet similar tapes, I give (more than) full marks to this SONY TC-K870ES, if they were indeed recorded on it. There's absolutely NO discernible difference between them. Does that also mean that the TC-K950ES and the TC-K770ES are better than this K870ES. If yes, how can they be better than this!!?

Mine is the 909 es

My deck is the Dolby S is it any better then Dolby C ?

Önskar vi hade denna typ av radio i dagens duopol bestående av Bauer Media och Viaplay Radio Group - tröttsamma mediakoncerner med blaskiga kommersiella kanaler. Radion var helt enkelt bättre på 90- och 00-talet i Sverige. Svensk FM-radio är förstörd därför ingen längre lyssnar på det. Finns ingen variation. Alla kanaler sänds från samma hus i Stockholm. De har till och med reklam samtidigt. "Variation". Pinsamt.

Why isn't there more noise without dolly c ? This would totally sound different with my deck.

How does this record with levels greater than 0db and going into the red zone without distortion? i usually record till peaks hit 0db. Here i see you are peaking at 8db.

hi! good video CONGRATS! i have a question... i just replace pinch, new belts. but its a bit slower when you hear other original tapes. but if i record and play in this deck it is perfect. at 3 khz shows 2.960 what can i do.? the model is sony k950ES many thanks. can i fix the capstan speed a bit? i know that it is locked quartz. many thanks bye. i just want perfection just like you! bye!!!

Great video! Nice job on the editing. Blowing up capacitors is always great to watch. Sony made great stuff in the 90's. Good work on the refurb. Keep it up!

For me there are a couple of things to note. I am impressed with the warmth of the D90 I was expecting it to sound a little muddied but it wasn't. So props to the 870ES biasing. The Chrome performed as I was expecting it to, much more forward and bright, not a sound I would be listening to for long periods. The Metal seemed to reign in the Brightness somewhat, allowing a warmth akin to the D90 but with the added dynamics and detail you could expect from a good quality Metal tape biased well on a great machine and the 870 is a great machine. So my overall impressions 1ST place the Metal; 2nd Ferric and 3rd The Chrome. Such a surprise how good the D90 could sound. The sad learning from this, I gave up on Cassettes far to soon. I put out for the rubbish a perfectly working Aiwa ADF990!!!!! and gave away a great performing Sony TCK 611S and with it a whole bunch of TDK MAXG's and Sony super Metal Master tapes

Awesome Video! I'm working on a Sony TC-K790 at the moment. The electrolytic SMD caps on my direct drive board are leaking as well.... Just ordered new parts. Very nice music for testing. This gives me motiviation to push through. :-)
